ROBBER ENDS CHASE BY CRASHING INTO PATROL CAR

SIOUX CITY—A VERMILLION MAN IS IN CUSTODY AFTER TRYING TO ROB A SIOUXLAND BANK AND FLEE POLICE.

WOODBURY COUNTY SHERIFF CHIEF DEPUTY GREG LOGAN SAYS THEY RECEIVED A CALL OF AN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AT THE LAWTON BRANCH OF THE FIRST TRAUST AND SAVINGS BANK OF MOVILLE.

A DEPUTY RESPONDING TO THE SCENE SPOTTED A VEHICLE THAT MATCHED THE DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE THE PERPETRATOR FLED IN.

THE DEPUTY FOLLOWED THE SUSPECT TO SIOUX CITY AND KEPT THE SUSPECT UNDER OBSERVATION WHILE AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF ADDITIONAL OFFICERS.

THE SUSPECT, 23 YEAR OLD KARLIS RAY BAISDEN OF VERMILLION, SPOTTED THE DEPUTY AND A SHORT CHASE ENSUED.

THE CHASE ENDED WHEN THE SUSPECT VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH AN IOWA STATE PATROL CAR NEAR GORDON DRIVE AND STONE AVENUE.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE COLLISION.

AUTHORITIES TOOK BAISDEN INTO CUSTODY AND CHARGED HIM WITH FIRST DEGREE ROBBERY, ASSAULT WHILE PARTICIPATING IN A FELONY, AND CARRYING A CONCEALED WEAPON.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES ARE PENDING FROM SOUTH DAKOTA AUTHORITIES REGARDING THE VEHICLE BAISDEN WAS DRIVING, WHICH HAD BEEN REPORTED AS STOLEN.
