FIRE DESTROYS HOME IN DAKOTA DUNES

SIOUXLAND—30-FOOT FLAMES LIT UP DAKOTA DUNES WEDNESDAY MORNING AND COMPLETELY DESTROYED A HOME. NORTH SIOUX CITY FIRE CHIEF BILL PAPPAS SAYS THEY RESPONDED TO THE BLAZE AT 6:30 AT 624 MONTEREY TRAIL. HE SAYS THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE GARAGE, ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT SURE HOW IT BEGAN. FIREFIGHTERS FROM FOUR RIGS USED AN AERIAL LADDER, TWO ENGINES AND A RESCUE TRUCK TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. SMOKE ALARMS WERE SOUNDING, BUT THE TWO ADULTS AND TWO CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE FROM THE FIRE ONLY AFTER A NEIGHBOR WOKE THEM UP.
