I-29 WORK DELAYED DUE TO RIVER LEVEL

SIOUX CITY—THE EXPANSION OF I-29 THROUGH SIOUX CITY HIT A BIT OF A SPEED-BUMP THIS WEEKEND WITH THE SLIDING OF MATERIAL NEAR THE BIG SIOUX RIVER.
IOWA D-O-T SIOUX CITY RESIDENT CONTRUCTION ENGINEER DEAN HERBST SAYS THEY’RE EXCAVATING ALONG THE BIG SIOUX TO PLACE A RETAINING WALL FOR THE NEW SOUTHBOUND LANE OF I-29 NEAR RIVERSIDE.
HE SAYS THE RAINY CONDITIONS HAVE CAUSED THE RIVER TO RISE ABOVE THE RETAINING WALL FOOTING AND WASHED AWAY MATERIAL.
HERBST SAYS THIS “MINOR DELAY” INCLUDES ROUGHLY 100-FEET OF SLIDING IN THIS 800 FOOT PROJECT.
AN ESTIMATE AS TO HOW MUCH TIME AND MONEY WAS LOST IN THIS WASH-OUT IS UNKNOWN.
