REMSEN MAN KILLED IN TRAIN CRASH

SIOUXLAND—A 37-YEAR REMSEN MAN WAS KILLED MONDAY IN A TRUCK-TRAIN COLLISION AT A CROSSING FOUR-AND-A-HALF MILES NORTHEAST OF LEMARS.
PLYMOUTH COUNTY SHERIFF VAN OTTERLOO SAYS AROUND 11:40 MONDAY MORNING, A 1997 FORD DUMP TRUCK, OWNED BY WALKER EXCAVATING, WAS BEING DRIVEN NORTHBOUND ON OTTER AVENUE AND A CANADIAN NATIONAL TRAIN WAS EASTBOUND ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS. HE SAYS THE DUMP TRUCK DID NOT YIELD TO THE TRAIN AND WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE.
THE TRUCK WAS PUSHED OVER THE BRIDGE RAILING AND CAME TO REST ON A CRANE THAT HAD BEEN USED TO REPAIR THE RAILROAD BRIDGE.
THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.
THE REMSEN MAN’S NAME IS BEING WITHHELD, PENDING FAMILY NOTIFICATION.
THIS INTERSECTION IS CONTROLLED BY YIELD SIGNS AND NO LIGHTS OR STOP ARMS ARE INSTALLED.
