SIOUXLAND STUDENTS NEED TO SECURE LOANS

SIOUX CITY—THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION LAW FORCING COLLEGE STUDENTS TO RECEIVE LOANS THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT RATHER THAN A BANK WENT INTO EFFECT JULY 1ST.

BRIAR CLIFF ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCIAL AID/ENROLLMENT ROBERT PIECHOTA PUT THIS PROTOCAL IN EFFECT LAST YEAR TO BETTER PREPARE BRIAR CLIFF FOR THE CHANGE, WHICH SAYS NO SCHOOLS CAN USE BANKING INSTITUTIONS FOR FEDERAL LOANS AND MUST SWITCH TO THE DIRECT LOAN PROGRAM.

HE SAYS THE LAW IS MAKING LIFE A BIT DIFFICULT FOR RETURNING STUDENTS.

FOR FIRST-TIME APPLICANTS, HE SAYS STUDENTS MUST FILL OUT THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID FORM.

BEFORE THE DIRECT-LOAN PROGRAM WAS MANDATED, 70-PERCENT OF SCHOOLS RECEIVED THEIR LOANS THROUGH BANKS AND 30-PERCENT THROUGH THE DIRECT PROGRAM.
